7Days Cross-Docking

Intelligent cross-docking

Creating competitive advantages

With our single and multi-stage cross-docking, we bring your goods directly and promptly to their final unloading point without intermediate storage. We are experts in the efficient transshipment of large volumes in our close-meshed distribution network. We minimize storage space requirements, thus reducing your warehousing costs. Our hub-and-spoke structure allows us to feed goods into our network throughout Switzerland, transshipping them at our two hubs in Egerkingen and Geneva. This enables us in particular to create short lead times for express shipments in the CEP area with our overnight network.
Our IT solutions meet the high demands of efficient cross-docking, enabling our customers’ master and transaction data to be integrated, and goods and information flows to be synchronized for smooth delivery. For you as a customer, cross-docking eliminates the storage process as well as its associated upstream and downstream activities, creating the advantage of lower warehousing costs and fewer processing steps.

Transshipment and cross-docking

In classic transshipment, goods are loaded from an external means of transport onto an internal one, or vice versa. Transshipment denotes all the activities that take place in warehouses or logistics centres, such as unloading, transporting, storing, picking, sorting and shipping. Cross-docking is considered a form of transshipment in which the (intermediate) storage of goods is omitted. Goods are typically pre-picked and delivered by the sender. This means there is no need for storage and subsequent picking, and goods can be directly assigned to the corresponding dispatch area for further consignment. In single-stage cross-docking, also called pre-allocated cross-docking, the consignor’s goods are handled unchanged by our hubs and forwarded to the final recipient. The sender must mark the goods with the name of the recipient beforehand. The loading units remain unchanged throughout the entire process.
It is different with two-stage cross-docking, also called break-bulk cross-docking, in which the delivered loading units are picked into new logistical units in our hub, i.e. we divide a pallet into small units, for example, which are marked with the final recipient from this point on. Multi-stage cross-docking is an extension of the two-stage variant in which additional value added services come into play.
